India makes most of its own fans, and a large share of the fans sold under well-known brand names are built by OEM manufacturers: factories that make fans to a brand’s specification, under the brand’s name. If you are looking for one, the first thing to know is that “OEM fan manufacturer” covers several quite different kinds of factory. Choosing the right kind matters more than choosing the biggest name.
Five kinds of fan OEM
Ceiling fan OEMs. The largest group by volume. A ceiling fan uses an inverted motor, where the rotor turns outside the stator, and is built on its own tooling and assembly lines. Many OEMs in North India and in Hyderabad specialise here.
TPW fan OEMs. TPW stands for table, pedestal and wall fans. All three share one motor architecture (rotor inside stator), one family of guards, blades and oscillation mechanisms, and often the same assembly line, so a TPW specialist can supply all three formats from one plant. See what is a TPW fan.
Ventilation and exhaust fan OEMs. Small-sweep fans for kitchens, bathrooms and light commercial use. Often made alongside TPW fans, since the motor technology is similar.
Industrial fan makers. Heavy-duty axial and centrifugal fans, air circulators and blowers for factories and warehouses. A separate trade with different customers, standards and price points.
BLDC fan makers. Brushless DC fans with electronic controllers, now spreading across ceiling, pedestal and wall formats as energy labelling tightens.
Large consumer brands also run their own plants, and many use OEM partners alongside them, typically for peak-season capacity, for formats outside their own lines, or as a second source.
Which kind do you need?
Start with the product, not the supplier. A brand adding pedestal and wall fans to a ceiling-fan range needs a TPW OEM, not a second ceiling-fan factory. A brand that wants one vendor for a full summer range of table, pedestal, wall and exhaust fans needs a TPW and ventilation specialist. A buyer of factory air circulators needs an industrial maker.
Then check five things:
- Certification that covers your models. Fans sold in India need the ISI mark under a BIS licence for IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 80). Ask for the licence schedule and check that your sizes and wattages are on it.
- Capacity at your peak. Fan demand is seasonal. Ask what the plant makes per month and how much of the February to May window is already committed.
- How much is made in-house. Motors, plastic parts, guards and wiring made under one roof mean shorter lead times and fewer quality hand-offs.
- Commercial terms that fit your size. Minimum order quantity, lead time on repeat orders, and who owns any custom tooling.
- A plant visit and a customer reference. Our longer checklist for selecting an OEM fan manufacturer covers each in detail.
